Usage Guide
Image Generator
Image Settings
- Text to hash: The text you enter here is the "seed" for the image generation process.
- Use random text instead? If this is checked, a randomly generated sentence will override any text input.
- Hash Type: The hash algorithm to use for the image generation process.
- Salt: In cryptography, a salt is "random data fed as an additional input to a one-way function that hashes data, a password or passphrase". (Wikipedia) TransmuSynth simply adds this data to the end of any text input before hashing it.
- Pattern size: This is used to determine the number of colors per row in the image. Depending on the image dimensions, different patterns will emerge in the pixel layout.
- Image Width: The width of the image to generate.
- Image Height: The height of the image to generate.
- Use RGB or CMYK for image? The color mode to use for the image generation process. Coupled with audio generation, RGB maps to three instruments while CMYK maps to four. The last visible track is ignored with RGB images.
- Remap colors by uploading a .gpl palette file: When a valid palette file is provided, TransmuSynth will remap the colors of the image to those of the palette.
Audio Generator
- Source Image: Click Browse to select an image from your computer. The file is processed temporarily to generate audio and is not stored after processing. Please only upload images you have the right to use and that comply with applicable laws. You are responsible for the content you choose to upload.
- Remap colors by uploading a .gpl palette file: When a valid palette file is provided, TransmuSynth will remap the colors of the image to those of the palette.
Style Settings
- Tonic: The tonal center of the key used for the audio generation process.
- Mode / Scale: The interval pattern to use for the audio generation process; some of these are standard, while others are invented for TransmuSynth.
- Tempo: The tempo to use for the audio generation process in beats per minute (BPM)
- Time Signature: Specifies how many note values of a particular type fit into each measure; the numerator (top) and denominator (bottom) numbers are entered separately.
- Movement: The movement type is used to construct phrases and sections that make up the musical piece.
Instrumentation
- Instrument: The MIDI program (instrument) to use for the first track of the audio generation process.
- Range: Will limit the distance from the lowest to the highest pitch the instrument can play.
- Panning: Where the individual instrument sits in the stereo spectrum. Note that some applications, like MuseScore, will ignore this when importing the MIDI file.
- Volume: Will determine the volume of the instrument. Moving the slider to the right will be louder, while moving it to the left will be quieter. Moving the slider completely to the left effectively mutes the instrument entirely.
Combo Generator
The Combo Generator incorporates both tools for a unique creation process: from the starter text to the final MIDI composition. Because of this, however, there are some minor differences in the settings.
Settings Overview
- All the Image Generator settings are included.
- Because it uses the Image Generator as the source, the image file upload option is removed.
- The remainder of the Audio Generator options (Style Settings and Instrumentation) are the same.
